Pro-Peace Populists
Populists must be cautious as movements can easily be co-opted by the power centers of the two monopoly parties. For example, Neo-Con-in-Prada, Sarah Palin, is attempting to hijack the Tea Party for Republicans; therefore, Progressives are sickened by the sight of them. Meanwhile, Chief of Staff Rahm “Hitman” Emanuel tells the Progressives that they are "f--king stupid" not to swallow Fascist Healthcare.

One of the fatal flaws in the concept of "limited" government is the judiciary. Endowed with the compulsory monopoly of the vital power of deciding disputes, of ultimately deciding who can wield force and how much can be wielded, the government judiciary sits as an unchecked and unlimited tyrant.
The War on Michael Steele
The War Party is conducting this pre-emptive strike on Steele to send a message to dissenters. In Krauthammer’s phrase, it is now a “capital offense” for a Republican leader not to support the Obama troop surge and the Obama-Petraeus policy. Yet a majority of Americans oppose the Afghan war. And the point made by Steele about the futility of fighting in Afghanistan has been made by columnists George Will and Tony Blankley, ex-Rep. Joe Scarborough, Ron Paul, and antiwar conservatives and moderates.

Taking on public-sector unions and the activist court have earned Christie high marks with conservatives, but what has really sent their minds daydreaming about a presidential run is the way he has handled a hostile press. Asked recently about his “confrontational style” by liberal columnist Tom Moran, Christie fired back, “You know, Tom, you must be the thinnest skinned guy in America. … If you think that is a confrontational tone, you should really see me when I’m pissed.” Christie explained that he was elected to office to have an argument. “They believe in bigger government, higher taxes, and more spending. I believe in less government, lower taxes, and empowering local officials elected by their citizens.”
Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century
TomWoods makes the case that there actually is another option – one that the powers that be (and their government-run schools) don’t want you to know about. Nullification– the act of rendering unconstitutional laws null and void, or inoperative, on a state level – is, as Thomas Jefferson put it, the "rightful remedy" in response to acts of undelegated power by the federal government, and Woods lays it all out in brilliant fashion.

Chris Maloney on government assassination squads.Which End, if Any, Is Near?
Some people have always occupied themselves in crying out that the end is near. This sort of thing has been going on for millennia. But lately, it seems to me, the volume of such doom-saying has risen markedly. Websites that feature apocalyptic forecasts have grown like weeds on the Web, and at least one well-known libertarian site has shifted from more analytical material to heavy doses of gloom-and-doom. An odd aspect of this increasing tendency toward Chicken-Little-ism is that it now comes for the most part in two completely different versions. Let’s call them the Left Version and the Right Version.

"Kill the speculators!" is a cry made during every famine that has ever existed.
Uttered by demagogues, who think that the speculator causes death through starvation by raising food prices, this cry is fervently supported by the masses of economic illiterates. This kind of thinking, or rather nonthinking, has allowed dictators to impose even the death penalty for traders in food who charge high prices during famines. And this is done without the feeblest of protests from those usually concerned with civil rights and liberties.
Rothbard's Legacy
The One and Only
Tributes to Murray N. Rothbard are often taken up with a listing of his accomplishments. This is because he was so astonishingly prolific that there seems to be many scholars with that name.
As soon as you describe him as an economist, you recall that he wrote some ten large volumes on history. But describe him as a historian and you suddenly recall that he made large contributions to political philosophy. But as soon as you begin talking about his libertarianism, you recall again that he wrote vast amounts of technical economic theory.

Challenge to the Tea Party
We’re not talking about the old, worn out Marxist idea of class struggle between simply the rich and the poor. The real class struggle is between the makers and the takers. The makers are you — the productive class, both workers and honest business people. The takers are the politically favored elite, from both government and business, that get rich by means of special favors from the government and tax dollars. The takers can also be called the political class. They’re parasites. They don’t earn their wealth. They use government to take it from the makers, the productive class.
Honoring Warriors, Rethinking Wars
As for America’s Civil War, this quarrel will never end. Did not the South have the same right to secede from the Union as the 13 colonies did to secede from England? Did Lincoln have the right to use blockade and invasion to drive Old Dixie down? His predecessor James Buchanan did not think so.

Ann Coulter Goes Antiwar?
Most boldly, Coulter ridicules the notion that it is patriotic for Americans to support all of their government’s wars. But now I hear it is the official policy of the Republican Party to be for all wars, irrespective of our national interest. What if Obama decides to invade England because he’s still ticked off about that Churchill bust? Can Michael Steele and I object to that? Or would that demoralize the troops?

Gallup poll: More Americans identify themselves as ‘extremely patriotic’
The seeming increase in patriotism is interesting because given the state of the economy, every-increasing dissatisfaction with the federal government and the ongoing wars in Iraq in Afghanistan, one might expect a decrease.
Michael Steele Turns Antiwar?
As Daniel Larison argues, Michael Steele’s recent remarks describing the Afghan mess as “a war of Obama’s choosing” and ridiculing the president’s decision to send more U.S. troops into the conflict — “has he not understood that you know that’s the one thing you don’t do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan?” — do not spring from hidden reservoirs of non-interventionist sentiment. Indeed, Steele has already “clarified” his position. The RNC chairman was reflexively attacking a Democratic president’s policy; it just happened to be his foreign policy, in this case.

Chris Matthews: 'Is Sarah Palin The Most Important Republican In The Country?'
A truly extraordinary thing happened on this weekend's "The Chris Matthews Show": the host asked his panel if former Alaska governor Sarah is the most important Republican in the country right now. What made this even more surprising was how his guests -- CNN's Gloria Borger, Politico's John Harris, the BBC's Katty Kay, and former "CBS Evening News" host Dan Rather -- seemed to feel she was. Most bullish on Palin was Rather who said, "I wouldn't underestimate her...If she decides to run, it would be hard to bet against her for the nomination."For his part, Matthews played a little bit of a misdirection with his viewers by predictably bashing Palin during the program's introductionThrowing Rocks

Who Owns the Land, Anyway?
Following the Mexican War (1846-1848), the United States annexed one-third of Mexico's territory. If you count Texas, whose admission to the union in 1845 largely precipitated the war, we took well over half of Mexico. That would include Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah. So who holds title to any part of this planet we humans live on for a spell, this place we call home?

Conservatives v. Libertarians
They really shouldn't be called conservatives at all
It’s hard to imagine a greater victory for the conservative legal movement than the Supreme Court’s 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, which overturned D.C.’s ban on handguns. Not only did the Court definitively settle the long-contested question of whether the Second Amendment secures an individual right to keep and bear arms, but it did so using the language of “originalism”—the school of thought, long championed by conservatives, that says the Constitution should be read according to its original public meaning.

Losing the War of Ideas in Afghanistan
Death by a Thousand Cuts
If one listened to Counterterrorism Advisor John Brennan's speech Wednesday last week or read the National Security Strategy released the following day, the Obama administration believes al-Qaeda and its affiliates to be nothing more than stone cold murderers, undeserving of the legitimizing title of jihadists. But if this is true, then the recent Pentagon Report Toward Progress and Stability in Afghanistan reveals that upwards of three million Afghans support or sympathize with the narrative of these murderers.
Roadmap Solution
A congressman with a plan imagine that!
As noted in the introduction, this proposal is a comprehensive plan for restructuring health care, the Federal health entitlements, retirement security, and Federal taxation to put the Federal budget and the U.S. economy on a sustainable path. Its aim is not to back away from the missions of these programs and activities, but to fulfill them – which can only be done through reform.
The Roadmap Plan
Paul Ryan a Republican with a plan than makes sense
For the past year, Washington’s leaders have taken an already unsustainable budget outlook and made it far worse. They have exploited Americans’ genuine economic anxieties to justify an unrelenting and wide-ranging expansion of government. Their agenda has included, among other things, a failed, debt-financed economic “stimulus”; an attempt to control the Nation’s energy sector; increasing domination of housing and financial markets; the use of taxpayer dollars to seize part ownership of two nearly bankrupt auto makers; and, of course, the planned takeover of Americans’ health care, already heavily burdened, manipulated, and distorted by government spending and regulation. This domineering government brings taxes, rules, and mandates; generates excessive levels of spending, deficits, and debt; leads to economic stagnation and declining standards of living; and fosters a culture in which self-reliance is a vice and dependency a virtue – and as a result, the entire country weakens from within.
Had Enough Yet?
For each of us who demands nothing more from the civilization we live in — and contribute our efforts to — than absolute ownership and control of our own lives (and, as Ayn Rand noted, the products of our lives) there has been nothing but increasingly bad news for as long as most of us can remember.
